I had never been much of a plein aire artist until Costa Rica. I simply preferred the studio where I could control my supplies and surroundings. It all changed when I lost the love of my life – my husband and best friend, Frank in 2014. For awhile I could barely paint. And then my Muse returned in the form of quick, small and usually plein aire paintings. they were strong, direct and mostly guided by intuition instead of art rules. And they became my favorite way to paint. I love the process of painting my watercolor sketches. And usually each for just an hour with a beer.
