Visit and/or Paint with Jan – for a morning, a day or 5 days and 6 nights!

It is my very real pleasure to welcome you who want to visit and/or paint with me. And I offer below several ways to do it.

As a watercolor teacher and writer, I love the power of color as well as words. My very simple home at Casa de Corazon allows me to do both. From my open-air studio I can see the lush valley and the city below while the thermal updrafts enable the Swallow-tailed Kites and various Vultures to soar just beyond. And oh the colors! I feel drenched in it year around – the flowers, the vibrantly colored tanagers at the feeder and the tropical light. Even from my indoor office computer, I can continue to see it all while I look up from my writing.

This is perfect for the person who is already in San Isidro and just would like to have a private morning painting session with Jan in her studio.

9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon

All levels welcome and Jan will help with whatever you want to focus on in watercolor. Plus – we will have a great time doing it! After we finish, let’s go out for lunch at my local favorite Mirador!

Jan will provide a full breakfast each morning. If you like to cook – great! We’ll shop and all the rest is available in the outdoor kitchen!
All local transportation with Jan, within 1/2 hour of Casa de Corazon. Taxis are available for a trip into town separately, if desired.

The five-day Watercolor Intensive is probably the best way to experience Jan Hart as a teacher and painter. Plus, you can experience the engaging simplicity of real Costa Rica life with Jan in the small Tico (Costa Rican) village she calls home! Your adventure begins with your arrival in San Jose (SJO) and continues on to Jan’s place, Casa de Corazon in southern Costa Rica. There you’ll find yourself in a watercolor immersion for five painting days and six nights. Plus – you get to help design the course – what you most want to learn and what else you’d like to see and do!

Testimonial for a 5 Day Intensive

I had the great pleasure of attending Jan’s ‘Intensive” painting class this last February. Jan along with her two dogs and parrot provided a very warm welcome to her home and outdoor studio/workshop area. The location totally supports an artist’s creativity – being up above the city of San Isidro – the quiet, the view of the surrounding hills, the city below (especially at night when the twinkling lights of the city come on), the vegetation, the sound of the birds… I even saw a Chestnut Mandibled Toucan right there on Jan’s property!

Now on to the wonderful benefits taking the “Intensive”:

When family and friends ask me about my experience taking the Intensive Class – I let them know Jan is on the top of my list of instructors – some information I have heard before but I better understood after Jan’s very thorough explanation and demonstration as well as learning new techniques such as “dancing stroke” which allows the background in a painting to do just that – dance.

To be able to stay on the property, in Jan’s incredible setting is an opportunity not to be missed. I stayed in the Casa Tranquila and that was wonderful – to be able to walk out each morning and just a few steps away to the outdoor set up for breakfast and class – who could ask for more? Outings that we took for a meal, the farmers market and to the beach offer a glimpse into life in Costa Rica.

Thank you Jan for sharing your home and your talent – you really put your Heart in to all that you provide those who come to enjoy the Intensive Classes.

Casa Tranquila

Casa Tranquila is the newest addition to Casa de Corazon and located directly across the walkway from Jan’s house.
With a spectacular 180 degree+ view out, it has a full kitchen, library, two twin beds that can be moved together if desired and a full private bathroom. A doorway from Casa Tranquila opens directly to the covered carport for easy access.

Cabina

There are two cabinas located 34 steps above the open air full outdoor kitchen with a spectacular view, tables for painting, a hammock, nearby outdoor shower and bathroom as well as small organic garden.
Each cabina has a queen sized bed, spectacular view, small porch and private bath with shower. It is kind of like living in a tree house.

Come for a short visit or a Month long Retreat

For those who would simply appreciate some private time to themselves and in the way that they choose.

This is for you who wish to do it all yourself – and have one of the Cabinas or Casa Tranquila for yourself, independently from Jan (except for breakfast and perhaps relaxing on the Infinity deck in the evening). Includes breakfast and coffee each morning. It is best if you have your own car – or are willing to call for a taxi when needed.

Cabina – $55/night/person ($80/night/couple) Single occupancy in one of Jan’s cabinas. 3 nights minimum and 3 weeks maximum stay. Full access to the outdoor kitchen for your cooking needs.
Casa Tranquilla – $65/night/person ($100/night/couple) Single occupancy in Casa Tranquila. 3 nights minimum and 3 weeks maximum stay. Full access to outdoor studio, organic garden and outdoor shower.

A Month Long Retreat in Casa Tranquila

Jan is offering something new – a chance to have your very own month long getaway!.

$800 for the month This is for you who want a Sabbatical – a chance to relax and experience yourself in a new country and culture with fresh fruits and vegetables, tropical breezes and a very simple way to live – for a month. You will be on your own with Jan often available for guidance and company. For now Jan is offering this only to women artists or writers who are traveling alone and who she already knows (or with references from someone she knows.) All the details will be worked out individually for your comfort and confidence. It is best if you have a rental car, but taxis are also available and Jan will be pleased to take you to the amazing farmer’s market once a week. Months available are during the Green or Rainy season (May, July, September, November) Contact Jan to begin making plans.
