Audio Video Previews
Four or five minutes isn’t much time – but it’s a chance to take a peek into each of the four videos so you can get a feel for what each video contains. As you can see, each video is completely natural, unrehearsed and includes an ongoing conversation between Jan and her student, Sharron. Believing strongly that painting and creativity is collaborative, Jan always paints with one or more students – and feels strongly that her work improves because of that collaboration. Though the camera focus is on Jan’s painting and process, Sharron’s contribution is evident.
Jan’s Watercolor Video – The Blue Leaves Part 1 (teaser)
Part 1 of the ‘Blue Leaves’ watercolor video set by Jan Hart is an hour long video of all the preparatory work Jan does before she actually begins to paint. Set up as a painting Intensive with her student, Sharron – Jan shares all her sketchbook studies and preparations including selecting a color scheme and the paints she’ll use. Part 1 ends with her painting surface prepared for paint.
Jan’s Watercolor Video – The Blue Leaves Part 2 (teaser)
In Part 2 of the ‘Blue Leaves’ watercolor video set Jan does most of the painting. Beginning with ‘Lightest, Brightest or Scariest First’ she jumps in and paints, leaf by leaf as she shares her thoughts and answers questions from Sharon. When most of the painting surface has at least one layer of paint, there is a natural pausing point and a good time to ask, ‘What shall I do next?’ This is what Jan calls ‘Adolescence’ – it isn’t done and is good time to critique before finishing.
Jan’s Watercolor Video – The Blue Leaves Part 3 (teaser)
Watch Jan Hart finish her ‘Blue Leaves’ watercolor painting in Part 3. The video begins as she and Sharron set up in Jan’s outdoor studio to review and critique their ‘Adolescent’ paintings in order to decide what to do to finish. Returning to Casa Tranquila, Jan shares various techniques and ideas about the finishing process.
Jan’s Watercolor Video – One Hour Sketch with a Beer (teaser)
One of Jan’s favorite loosening up exercises as well as just an enjoyable way to relax is to paint a fast watercolor sketch with as little preparation as possible. Jan often likes to have her favorite Costa Rican beer – Imperial Light, over iced cubes – while she does a fast sketch. In this 1 hour video, Jan and Sharon set up in the outdoor studio to paint, en plein aire Jan’s mango tree using plain sketchbook paper, a few paints, a brush and some water. Jan explains as they paint in this fresh and ‘in the moment’ video.
Audio Slideshows
Jan’s voice accompanies each of the 12 Audio pdf Slideshows. Eight of the slideshows are informational tutorials, each presenting a clearer understanding of a painting subject – i.e. light, shade, night, color, etc. Four are particular paintings with step by step photos describing the process and Jan’s voice explaining in more detail. Each Audio Slideshow is 18 – 57 slides.
