Jan’s Words: The painting of Echo Rocks by moonlight was such a joy to paint. I limited my palette to those colors still visible by our human eyes at night – mostly blues and grays. I thought about the direct moonlight as a very palest blue. Then I darkened the shaded areas. I thought if the moonlight was bright enough, there may be the possibility of cast shadows. As I worked, the painting took an abstract turn, which I loved.
