Jan’s Words: While I was working on my book, “The Watercolor Artist’s Guide to Exceptional Color” in 2006-7, I painted  three versions from a photo of a Madonna statue in my iris garden. In each I used the same paints but in different emphases.. In this one I focused a lot on the purples and blues – and so loved using just a touch here and there of the brilliant orange gold.
