Jan’s Words: I read once that one of my favorite artists, Emile Nolde (1867-1956) sometimes painted on rice paper. One of the first Expressionists, he experimented widely with watercolors – boldly and powerfully. So I decided to try it. This is the only painting I did on rice paper simply because I couldn’t really control it at all. I did, however love the saturation and the color intensity. Thank you, Emile Nolde for the inspiration!
