Jan’s Words: This painting was begun very soon after I moved to Costa Rica and gave a workshop on the Osa Penninsula. As I traveled around in this new (to me) country, I saw the Brahmins everywhere, grazing in pastures or on nearly vertical sides of mountains. Most were white. And most were accompanied by one or two cattle egrets who were also white. I knew the two had a symbiotic relationship meaning that both benefit: the egret gets bugs stirred up by the cow; the cow gets ticks removed from its fur. But to me it looked like there was more. I saw a soul connection.
